Trump impeachment effort gains steam in North Carolina
What was once just wishful thinking from the left has actually translated to significant action in Congress as the impeachment investigation into Donald Trump’s corrupt abuses of power gains steam.
A government whistleblower has come forward to reveal that Trump asked the new president of Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden and his family on flimsy accusations of corruption. And... it just so happened that Trump had frozen $391 MILLION in military aid to Ukraine that was critical to Ukraine to defend itself from Russian aggression. Ukraine really wanted that American military aid. Trump really wanted a Ukrainian investigation of Trump's biggest threat to his re-election.
In a nutshell, Trump was asking a foreign government to meddle in the 2020 presidential election. Sound familiar?
- A recent poll found that more North Carolinians want to impeach Trump than those who approve of his job performance. 46% of respondents said they approve of Trump’s job performance, while 48% said they wanted to impeach him.
- The Washington Post reports that Sen. Richard Burr is thinking about breaking with Trump and supporting an impeachment investigation. And he has already said the Senate Intelligence Committee he chairs will investigate Trump’s Ukraine deal. But as usual, Sen. Thom Tillis is standing by his man and supporting Trump.
- Meanwhile, a federal judge has taken a sledgehammer to Trump’s stonewalling of investigations. The judge in New York’s fight to inspect Trump’s tax returns said that Trump’s claim that presidents are immune from investigation is “repugnant to the nation’s governmental structure and constitutional values.” The ruling is being appealed, but it is an ominous sign that Trump’s legal claims of immunity will be rejected.
- The last TEN White House Chiefs of Staff for Democratic AND Republican presidents all say they would have never accepted help from a foreign government to meddle in an American election. Jim Baker who worked for President George HW Bush wrote a memo totally rejecting the suggestion for foreign help in the 1992 election
There is clearly enough evidence to impeach Trump for using the power of his office to solicit foreign countries to interfere in U.S. elections. NC Republicans should either get on board or plan on going down with the ship.
