Teacher Truth Tour says schools need more help
NC teachers continue to see a lack of positive changes to our state's schools and students, despite raises in teacher salaries under Governor McCrory's leadership. Despite trying to increase pay, Governor McCrory's education proposal does little to help students and alleviate a lack of adequate classroom resources seen in our state's schools.
Teachers in our area are speaking up against Governor Pat McCrory, saying even with recent actions he's proposed for a 5% pay raise and yearly bonuses for teachers, he needs to do more to help improve the school systems in our state.
Dozens of teachers held signs and some stepped up to the podium outside Garinger High School to talk about the challenges they and their students face every day: jam-packed classrooms, less teachers, a textbook shortage, and a need for teachers to spend their own money on supplies for the classroom.
"We raised the pay for the incoming teachers, and that's okay," Lyde said. "But they're taking that, they're getting the training, and they're taking their skills elsewhere. That's not good for our children."
