Salary-Gate. Time to Investigate.

RALEIGH—Progress NC Action today repeated its call for a legislative investigation into the hiring and compensation practices in the McCrory Administration, in particular, within DHHS. A News & Observer report this morning uncovered a DHHS contract paying a senior adviser to Secretary Aldona Wos, Joe Hauck,  $228,000 in just eight months.

Hauck was formerly the Director of Marketing at New Breed Logistics, a company owned by Wos’ husband. Wos, her husband and New Breed Logistics were major contributors to Gov. Pat McCrory’s campaign.

Progress NC report released earlier this year found that New Breed Logistics employees and their families contributed $216,497 to the McCrory campaign. In addition, New Breed contributed $25,000 to the Republican Governors Association.

“DHHS is an example of cronyism gone wild and Gov. McCrory is defending their hiring practices. So now its time for the legislature to step in and investigate. It’s their duty to provide oversight,” said Gerrick Brenner of Progress NC Action.
