NC Senate Blocks Counties From Helping Teachers

7 Comment(s) | Posted

As the NC General Assembly fails to strike a deal on a budget, leaving thousands of teachers in limbo, the NC Senate is limiting some counties ability to fill the void left by the General Assembly. The Charlotte Observer has the story,

Larger counties that already have higher sales tax rates say they would be unfairly limited by the measure.

Sen. Josh Stein, a Raleigh Democrat, said the measure targets four urban counties – Mecklenburg, Wake, Guilford and Forsyth – that could exceed the 2.5 percent cap if they enact transit taxes.

The bill allows Orange and Durham counties to continue levying the 2.75 percent sales taxes they already have in place.

“A ‘level playing field’ doesn’t exist because Orange and Durham counties already have a 2.75 percent tax,” Stein said.

Had enough NC? Hope by now NC voters have realized the error of their ways for voting in a con majority and a big money puppet for a governor. If not, how much damage has to be done by these yahoos until we do?

Had enough NC? Do we, NC voters finally see the error of our ways in voting in a con majority in our general assembly and a special interest puppet governor? If not, how much more damage has to be done by these yahoos until we do?

Has anyone else noticed that Gov. MCCrory and his "republican friends do not care anything at all about the people of N C? Their only agenda is furthering their political careers (as in Thom Thillis). N C is a Joke now thanks to them!

I've totally forgotten which absurd illogical, immoral, unethical educational issues, policies, and general statutes I should be the most concerned with. They seem to only grow in number and severity! I think the LEA's need to take some blame as well. It's not just the state. While we're at it what has NCAE been doing for the last 7 years other than having lunches with politicians with member fees and donations and laughing at its members for thinking they're actually doing something. WCPSS is the craziest place I have ever worked. Education is corrupt. It's become a political buzz word for politicians who haven't a clue what's best for education. While we're letting politicians form educational policy instead of degreed licensed teachers why don't we also have them write new procedures for performing a heart transplant as well. After all, if they know more about education than teachers, I'm sure they know more about heart transplants than doctors as well.

This is totally uncalled for.... It is amazing to me to see the NC reps truly trashing OUR state. I'm a native of NC & proud of it!!! Unfortunately, we have folks that just want to trash & burn the state down from greedy, non-working with citizens. I WANT MY STATE BACK!!! *VOTE BLUE* & kick these clowns OUT of office for good!!!!!
