$500,000 taken out of disaster relief to defend Gov. McCrory's discriminatory HB2.

A new budget proposal that recently has been pushed through the NC senate would divert $500,000 of funds from the state's disaster relief fund to go towards defending Governor McCrory's discriminatory HB2 measure in Court.

Winston-Salem Journal:

The North Carolina General Assembly could give Gov. Pat McCrory's office $500,000 to help him defend House Bill 2 in court.

Legislation to make small and technical changes to a separate state budget agreement would take the money from $10 million allocated for disaster relief fund to use for the legal costs. The legislation earmarking the $500,000 cleared the Senate Appropriations Committee on Thursday.

This political move wreaks heavily of the fictional character Frank Underwood in House of Cards, who raided FEMA for funds to start his jobs program. The difference between Gov. McCrory and House of Cards, is that unlike President Underwood, Governor McCrory is using these funds to continue defending discrimination against members of the LGBT community.
