McCrory Should Fire Consultants or Answer Questions

RALEIGH — While Pat McCrory hosts the media at the NCGOP Headquarters today he should take the time to either cut ties to two campaign consultants linked to the infamous Jeremiah Wright ad scheme or he needs to answer questions about why they are still employed by his campaign. Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney has already condemned the scheme and the national Republican Party fired one of its consultants linked to the plan.

McCrory’s ad man, Fred Davis, is the mastermind behind the plan to tie President Barack Obama to controversial statements made by the Reverend Jeremiah Wright. Brian Nick, McCrory’s day-to-day spokesman, is a Davis lieutenant. Both Davis and Nick are referenced in the plan as members of the “Team of Pirates” ready to implement the campaign.

“McCrory is employing consultants who masterminded negative ads too extreme and too divisive for even the Republican Party,” said Gerrick Brenner, Executive Director of Progress NC Action. “It’s been a week since Mitt Romney condemned these tactics, why hasn’t McCrory followed suit?”
