Gov. McCrory admits the budget he signed is only "chicken feed" for teachers

It seems like Governor McCrory has finally realized how inadequate the budget he proudly signed is. Despite touting his supposed love for teachers, Gov. McCrory has now admitted that the $750 one-time bonus for teachers that was in the budget was only "chicken feed." We've been saying the same thing, so we hope Governor McCrory will now get serious about raising teacher pay to the national average.

Yes!, chicken feed for teachers and for support staff too! I agree that teachers in North Carolina are underpaid, but so am I!!! I am a HR/Teacher Licensure Specialist and I haven't had a raise in YEARS! Support staff are working harder than ever with less personnel because when cuts are made at the school level, so is a position at the administrative offices. Moral is the lowest I have ever seen! It is embarrassing that our government has allowed education to suffer such a travesty! We have teachers resigning and going to SC, and support staff resigning because they can earn more money at a bank!

Teachers are hugely valuable and deserve better. However, State employees have worked for the past 8 or so years with virtually NO raises. They also deserve much better treatment.

I think this was planned. McCrory and his Republican counterparts in Raleigh have set themselves up to "heroically" make changes next year...when they're up for reelection. Chicken feed this year. A few more scraps next year. Hog wash after that. Wouldn't happen if we had a right to organize and collectively bargain.
