From The Outer Banks Voice: Chamber rounds up supplies for Hatteras, Ocracoke schools

Due to the fact that school supply funding, when adjusted for inflation and enrollment, has been cut in half over the last 10 years, teachers and parents are struggling to meet the needs of classrooms across the state.  The Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce heard the outcry of area teachers and held a drive to try to fill in the gap.  With communities all over the state struggling to provide classroom supplies we have to ask why our legislature continues to give tax cuts to corporations, and continues to cut the supply budgets of our public schools.

From The Outer Banks Voice:

The Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce recently held a successful school supply drive for Hatteras and Ocracoke schools.

“I saw a Facebook post from a teacher worried about getting supplies for the school year, and sent out a request to all Chamber members,” said Karen Brown, Chamber president.

Chamber members responded in a big way. The lobby of the Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce on Town Hall Drive was filled with pens, pencils, notebooks and more for the children, as well as needed supplies for the schools.
